Overview

In 1997, iconic Belizean fly fishing guide Lincoln Westby started Blue Horizon Lodge on Northeast Caye. For decades, Blue Horizon Lodge was the destination for hardcore permit anglers looking to fish the famed flats of central and southern Belize. Since then, Lincoln and his guides turned into some of the most experienced and skilled permit guides found anywhere in the world. Lincoln’s knowledge of his home waters and the fish that inhabit them are truly legendary.

These days Lincoln is still pursuing the permit he has spent his career studying, and his passion for sharing his home waters with traveling anglers has not diminished in the slightest. Lincoln’s lodge is currently closed (awaiting renovations) but he and his team of guides have partnered with several outstanding resorts in the heart Belize’s best permit flats. With lodging options in Placencia, Hopkins, and off-shore from Dangriga, Fly Water Travel helps guests select from one of four luxury accommodations, and Lincoln and his guides will meet anglers on-site, taking care of all the fishing and guiding needs.

Fishing Program

The Blue Horizon fishing program is centered around a team of seasoned guides headed up by legendary permit guide Lincoln Westby. The guides either pick guests up at their accommodations or they will stay in the same complex. Anglers fish two per boat with a single guide. While most of the flats in this area are solid enough to wade, Blue Horizon guides prefer to minimize the impact that wade fishing has on the sensitive coral ecosystem by fishing from flats skiffs. Over the years, they've determined that more fish are caught from the boat as the fish are less aware of the presence of anglers.

Accommodations

To keep with the heritage and history of the island and Lincoln Westby's legacy, the new Blue Horizon converted one of the original guest rooms into the new main lodge and dining area. The footprint was doubled, the walls on two sides opened up and a wraparound deck were added to create an open-air lodge with striking views of the home flat (yes, you will be able to fish to tailing permit in front of the lodge). The unique design allows the lodge to be fully open to the ocean, have a portion open to the outside, or it can be completely closed off to provide protection from the weather. You'll enjoy the comfortable lounge and of course the community dining table.

The sea-side guest rooms have views that extend past the edge of the home reef, have been designed to utilize as much of the original guest cabins as possible, with many of the decorations being repurposed from Lincoln’s original Blue Horizon Lodge. All of the guest rooms are air-conditioned and furnished with two full size beds. A spacious private bathroom, complete with hot water showers is created from recycled materials. Rooms 1 and 2 are nearly 100% from the original lodge, and the three-room unit housing rooms 3, 4, and 5 share the original footprint of Lincoln’s lodge. Front porch decks give anglers the perfect place to take in the sunrise, read a book, or relax with friends and tell tales of the day’s fishing success.

All Blue Horizon packages are all-inclusive, they include three meals per day, snacks and local alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages. Your typical daily menu consists of traditional Belizean cuisine with a modern touch. Breakfast is served buffet style and is ready early in the morning. The location allows us the unique ability to maximize the best fishing tides, and you will either have lunch back at the lodge or take lunch on the boat with you. A three-course meal always concludes your day at Blue Horizon Lodge.
