Overview

Northern California’s Klamath river has a long and rich angling history. Avid fly anglers have pursued salmon and steelhead on the Klamath for nearly a century, gaining the river worldwide recognition for the quality of its’ fishing opportunities. Today the Klamath boasts healthy populations of wild adult and juvenile steelhead and has possibly the lowest fishing pressure it has seen in decades. Jefferson Flywater is situated on the Klamath river’s least traveled waters. This permanent camp offers all the necessary amenities needed for the serious angler in a truly stunning section of river.

Fishing Program

Most anglers who fish with Jefferson Flywater elect to swing flies with spey rods. The water is well suited to the swung fly and water temperatures are often conducive to fishing a floating line or light sink-tip. Drift boats are used for transportation with anglers getting out to fish while wading. The wading is not difficult by Pacific Northwest standards, though studded wading boots are recommended. Anglers can expect to catch six to ten juvenile steelhead for every adult they encounter. For this reason, this is a great destination for lighter line weight spey rods.

Accommodations

Jefferson Flywater is situated on six acres of riverside property in the beautiful Klamath River canyon. There is productive home water at the camp as well as one of this operation’s most used boat ramps.

Guests stay in double occupancy wall tents. Each tent, spaced throughout the property, has two cots with thick pads and a lantern. The separate bath house has running water and offers a hot shower before or after fishing. Meals are prepared in a covered outdoor kitchen that truly defines “outdoor gourmet”. Guests can enjoy a separate covered area for eating.
