"I have used the 7-8-9 wt (50 Lb test) version for 18 - 24 inch butt sections of 8 and 9 foot tied leaders (down to 20 Lb tippet), WF8F fly line, medium-fast 9 ft 8 wt rod with streamer. I am in SW Florida and tested it in 50 to 75 degree air temp in January. Leaders turn over well in these temps. I don’t know yet how it will perform when it gets hot in the Spring. Product spec says it is medium stiff but does not specify temperature range. It takes some time to stretch out the coils from the spool but will stay straight. Diameters are same per Lb test compared to their salt water leader material. I haven’t yet tested the SW material as an alternative. I found it impossible to tie a tidy 5 wrap nail knot to the fly line, or an acceptable blood knot to a 40 Lb mid section. . A 4 turn nail knot is possible. A double nail knot with three wraps on both sides to a 40 Lb mid section, in my hands, is far superior to a blood knot at those mono sizes."

Nice to have a big spool
"I don't know as it differs from 50 lb saltwater hard mono in any way, but it's nice to get it in a bigger spool and pay less per foot for the portion of leader line you'll use the most of making leaders for salt. If you tie your own leaders for a 7-9 weight, this butt material is a must have."
