Easier Travel to Mexico's Yucatán Peninsula

Landon Mace November 29, 2023

Flights heading to the Caribbean coast of the Yucatán Peninsula is getting a little easier for anglers heading to Ascension Bay, Espiritu Santo Bay, and Xcalak!

A new airport is set to open on December 1, 2023 in the town of Tulum, Mexico. Tulum Airport which will be officially known as Aeropuerto Internacional de Tulum or Felipe Carrillo Puerto International Airport (TQO). This will undoubtedly become the second busiest airport to service any flights in/out of the Yucatán Peninsula.

At this time, the following airlines are set to start direct flights from various U.S. hubs, starting March 28, 2024:

  • American Airlines will have daliy flights from Dallas-Fort Worth (DFW), Charlotte (CLT), and Miami (MIA).
  • Delta Airlines will have dailiy flights from Atlanta (ATL).
  • Spirit Airlines will have dailiy flights from Orlando (MCO) and Fort Lauderdale (FLL).
  • United Airlines and Alaska Air will have connectors in Mexico City for a follow on to Tulum.

With any luck, the options will continue to open up with more connections and make this route a go-to in the future.
