NEW: Rio Ñirehuao River Camp - A Refined Extension of Coyhaique River Lodge

Liam Donohoe January 29, 2026

Coyhaique River Lodge has always been defined by variety. Guests can expect to fish multiple watersheds using a range of techniques, while also having access to thoughtfully curated non-angling activities if they choose. All of this is tied together by a lodge experience that balances comfort with genuine immersion in Patagonia.

The NEW Rio Ñirehuao River Camp at Coyhaique River Lodge

The new Rio Ñirehuao River Camp builds on that foundation, offering guests a slower-paced and more focused way to experience one of the region’s most beautiful rivers.

Located in the Ñirehuao Valley, and only a two hour drive from the main lodge, the river camp is designed as a one-night, two-day experience within the standard lodge program. It is not a replacement for the main lodge, but an opportunity to step away from the main lodge for a night, and spend meaningful time on a single piece of water in an intimate setting.

The program is relaxed and immersive, more akin to staying at a friend’s riverside cabin than moving through a traditional lodge schedule.

Fishing is flexible and tailored to both guest preferences and river conditions. Most guests choose either a float on day one concluding at the camp, followed by a walk-and-wade program the next day, or two full days of floating.

Both options emphasize unrushed fishing, thoughtful water coverage, and time spent engaging with the river rather than covering distance for its own sake.

Accommodations at the camp are intentionally intimate and well appointed. Each cabin features two private bedrooms separated by a central kitchen and common area. Every room is double occupancy with an en-suite bathroom, and each cabin is positioned just above the river, opening onto a generous deck overlooking the Rio Nirehuao. Mornings begin with the sound of moving water; evenings are spent watching the light fade from the porch.

Food and atmosphere are central to the experience. Meals are prepared by your guides and hosts. It’s simple, authentic, and well executed. Once guests arrive at camp, the following day’s fishing is close at hand, eliminating long transfers and allowing more time on the water.

What makes the river camp special is its sense of scale. It delivers the comfort, professionalism, and guiding standards of Coyhaique River Lodge, distilled into a focused, small-format experience where the river becomes the sole priority.

For anglers looking to add depth, intimacy, and a stronger connection to a single river system, the Rio Ñirehuao River Camp is a natural and rewarding enhancement to the overall trip.

The river camp is offered as an optional add-on experience within the standard Coyhaique River Lodge weekly package and does incur a modest additional fee.
