Doug Wright tied his first fly at age 4, guided by his father on British Columbia's rich stillwaters. By 11, he was tying commercially for store credit; by his teens, contributing patterns to publications. A 2005 trip to the legendary Dean River turned into a career-defining opportunity — he's been guiding steelhead there every summer since, now approaching his 20th season. Based in Smithers, BC, Doug also guides the Bulkley River in fall. For him, tying is inseparable from fishing — a constant pursuit of the perfect imitation and the perfect grab.
