Overview
Many may think that in a state as large and wild as Alaska that finding a truly remote, ultra-scenic location absent of competing anglers is easy. The fact of the matter is that such places remain rather rare and unique, especially when coupled with their own little world-class fisheries. The aptly named EPIC Alaska Wilderness SAFARI is one of these hidden gems that has it all. Located on a pristine bay at the base of the Alaskan Peninsula and ringed by gorgeous snow-capped mountains, the SAFARI camp is suitable for kids, families and die-hard fisherman, offering not only a stunning wilderness experience but some of the best fishing for sea-bright salmon available. With walk and wade access to river, estuary, and saltwater habitats available, this comfortable camp provides a combination of creature comforts and true wilderness that few can match.
Fishing Program
The EPIC camp is located one third of a mile from the salt water, giving anglers access to fresh, bright salmon in four different types of water: streams, tidal flats, beaches and bays. Additionally, anglers enjoy a prolific sea-run Dolly Varden fishery and can even throw flies to halibut and rockfish. Helicopter fly-out fishing during the later portion of the season when the silver salmon are running is also an option. Guests will fish two per guide and can access most fishing by walking or a short boat shuttle. The program is relaxed, and guests are encouraged to make known their desires for their trip and set their own schedule. With no competition from other lodges there is no need for anglers to rush to the fishing grounds to reserve their spot.
Accommodations
The EPIC Alaska Wilderness SAFARI camp houses a maximum of nine guests per week in heavy duty Weatherport tents. These double occupancy tents include sleeping bags with cots and are warm, comfortable, and serviced each day by a staff member. Guests and guides share a separate bath house with a hot shower, and an isolated pit toilet is shared as well. Guests will also have access to a separate storage and drying tent for wet gear. Cameras and other devices can be charged using the camp’s solar panels. The dining tent is spacious, and meals are served family style. The meals consist of fresh salmon, halibut, rockfish and other meats along with salads and side dishes.
