Overview

An exceedingly tasteful lodge on the Madison River, established by people who know how to provide a luxury experience.

Owners and hosts John and Krista Sampson, known for partnering with Paul Mosely to open Ruby Springs Lodge, are at it again in this recent venture, Madison Double R. For the angler who appreciates modern dwellings and deluxe amenities after a day on the river, Madison Double R is sure to impress. Striking views of the mountains that make Big Sky a national treasure fall backdrop to the curated cabins, lodge and patio where guests can spend their evenings enjoying a cocktail by the stone firepit. The fishing program follows suit with quick access to the renowned Madison River, with a myriad of other local fisheries for those looking to diversify their trip.

Fishing Program

Two miles of the Madison River run along the lodge property, and guided float trips on what some would call the world’s most famous trout river are certainly a main focus at Madison Double R. This stupendous river boasts numerous stretches as it courses from Yellowstone National Park to the headwaters of the Missouri, which gives anglers an amazing mix of fly fishing.

Madison Double R is fortunate to be within easy striking distance to several more prized Montana wild trout rivers; the lower Big Hole offers excellent fishing for browns and rainbows, along with a wild and remote setting. The Jefferson River is nearby as well, boasting undercut banks and lurking brown trout.

Fishing the smaller Ruby River offers anglers an opportunity to experience a classic Montana creek, and trips to explore the waters in and around Yellowstone National Park for a day of walk and wade fishing are a unique way to see the iconic national park. If you want to try stillwater fly fishing, Hebgen and Ennis lakes offer potential for larger fish, as well as (when the conditions are right) tremendously fun 'gulper' fishing for surface-cruising trout.

Accommodations

The modern lodge is comprised of two pods connected with an outdoor trellissed terrace. The lounge portion of the lodge features a full bar with premium wines, beers and spirits, a river rock fireplace, two TVs, and an outdoor covered fireplace porch with stunning views where hors d'oeuvres are served as the sun dips below the horizon.

The other half of the building has a spacious dining room boasting massive windows with views across the pond and meadows. For much of the summer, the windows slide aside for an immersive outdoor dining experience.

Five spacious Creekside Cabins provide simple luxury in a private setting. With views that look out over a beautiful meadow ringed by towering cottonwoods, it’s not uncommon to see a variety of wildlife. Each cabin offers two queen beds, oversized showers, soaking bath tubs, wood burning fireplaces, flat panel TVs, hardwood floors, outdoor cedar decks, and small kitchenettes making a supremely comfortable hideaway at the end of each day.

Two 2-bedroom Mountainview Cabins thoughtfully-positioned next to each other are perfect for those who have something sophisticated, spacious, and possibly social in mind. Sleeping up to eight guests comfortably, the Mountainview Cabins are ideal for up to four couples, eight friends, or a sprawling single-occupancy option. The prevailing views of the Madison Range are jaw dropping.
