River People Guides offers a remote and refined freestone fishing experience on the eastern slope of Alberta’s Canadian Rockies. Based out of the Riverside Chateau in the charming hamlet of Bragg Creek, this trip combines guided drift and walk-and-wade fishing with upscale accommodations and seamless logistics. Guests will enjoy exclusive access to the Elbow River—one of Alberta’s most scenic and under-pressured trout fisheries—as well as remote alpine streams home to native trout species. Fishing Program
The trip features three full days of professionally guided fly fishing, including two drift-fishing days on the Elbow River and one alpine walk-and-wade adventure. The Elbow River portion allows anglers to access remote, lightly fished stretches of water via raft—an experience that few anglers have the opportunity to enjoy. The final day involves a short drive and scenic hike into the front ranges of Alberta’s southern Rockies to fish pristine mountain streams for native species. The program is designed for anglers of all skill levels, with guides offering casting instruction, all needed flies and gear, and kind, expert advice. Guests will target a wide variety of trout, including cutthroat, rainbow, brown, brook, and bull trout, in beautiful, wild settings.
Accommodations
Guests stay at the Riverside Chateau, a handcrafted log mansion tucked along the banks of the Elbow River. This certified 5-star property offers spacious guest suites with luxury bedding, ensuite bathrooms, and tranquil riverfront views. This is not a fishing lodge, but rather the guide’s preferred accommodation used by a range of travelers. The atmosphere is relaxed and welcoming, providing a perfect retreat after a full day on the water. Daily breakfasts and lunches are included: expect hearty, hot breakfasts and streamside deli or BBQ-style lunches prepared by your guide. Dinners are arranged at top local restaurants in Bragg Creek, known for their quality, charm, and warm hospitality. While alcohol is not provided, guests are welcome to bring their own or purchase it locally.

How do I get there?
Guests fly into Calgary International Airport (YYC), where a guide will meet you for the short drive to Bragg Creek. Private aircraft can land at Springbank Airport, just over 25 minutes from the lodge.
When should I go?
The prime season runs from late June through late October. Summer offers prolific hatches and dry-fly opportunities, while autumn features vibrant colors and productive streamer fishing.
How will I fish?
Guests enjoy a combination of guided drift trips on the Elbow River and a walk-and-wade day on remote alpine streams. Guests will typically fish with 5-weight rods and floating lines, throwing dry flies and dry dropper rigs.
Is there wade fishing?
Yes, there is typically one day that is all walk and wade fishing and there will be opportunities to get out of the raft and wade fish select runs.
Where will I fish?
Generally you will be fishing the eastern slope of the Canadian Rockies, in southern Alberta, east of Calgary. The primary system is the Elbow River, which sees very limited fishing pressure. You will also fish at least one alpine stream that will be remote and offer sight fishing opportunities.
How long does it take to reach the fishing grounds?
Drift trips begin just 10–30 minutes from the lodge. For the alpine day, expect a scenic drive and short hike, usually totaling about 1 to 1.5 hours.
What type of fish will I catch? How many fish will I catch?
You’ll target a mix of native and introduced trout species including cutthroat, brown, brook, rainbow, and bull trout. Catch rates vary with conditions and angler experience, but most guests enjoy consistent action and quality fish.

Does the lodge provide equipment?
Yes, all fishing gear is included: rods, waders; boots; nets; flies; leaders; and tippet. Guests are welcome to bring personal gear but it’s not necessary.
