Overview

Salmon Lodge is one of the most iconic Atlantic Salmon fishing lodges in Quebec, steeped in over a century of tradition and perched high on an 80-foot escarpment overlooking the legendary Grand Cascapedia River. Built in the late 1800s, the lodge has long served as a haven for salmon anglers seeking not just extraordinary fishing, but an experience rooted in history, elegance, and timeless charm. Locatedin the heart of the Cascapedia Valley, guests have the chance to fish some of the finest salmon waters in North America—including the crystal-clear Bonaventure, the intimate Petite Cascapedia, and the storied Grand Cascapedia. With warm hospitality, classic accommodations, and access to three world-renowned rivers, Salmon Lodge is more than a fishing destination—it’s a step back in time to the golden age of Atlantic salmon angling.

Fishing Program

Guests at Salmon Lodge will fish two per guide. Guides are seasoned French-speaking locals many of whom speak respectable fishing English. The methods employed are very traditional, no sink tips or weighted flies, and depending on the waters and time of year either single or double handed rods can be used. Flies are typically swung down and cross with floating lines but there may be opportunities to dead drift dry flies with single had rod. 26-foot cedar canoes will often be used for transportation and at time anglers might fish from the canoes. There will also be ample wading opportunities.

Guests will fish three of the Gaspé Peninsula’s most renowned and productive rivers—the Bonaventure, the Petite Cascapedia, and the world-famous Grand Cascapedia. From the moment you arrive, you’ll be immersed in a setting where tradition, natural beauty, and world-class fishing converge. The Bonaventure is renowned for its crystal clear waters and sight fighing. Th Petite Cascapedia is a smaller, more intimate river that offers quiet solitude and an almost meditative fly-fishing experience. And the Grand Cascapedia is home to the legendary Cascapedia Giants, which are among the largest Atlantic salmon in North America. Midday a riverside lunch will served. offers a welcome pause during a remarkable fishing day. In June, anglers experience a mix of fishing from canoes and classic wade fishing targeting lower numbers of large bright fish. July and August bring the peak of dry fly season, when anglers wade quietly into cool, clear water, presenting dead drifted bombers with short precise drifts. September is a dynamic time on the river, with changing water levels and vibrant autumn scenery. Whether drifting in a canoe or wading through a misty morning pool, the final weeks of the season offer an exciting blend of techniques and the chance to connect with salmon in a setting that feels both wild and timeless.

Accommodations

Accommodations at Salmon Lodge blend historic charm with the comforts of a private riverside retreat. The main lodge is a beautifully preserved building overlooking the legendary Grand Cascapedia River and takes up to eight guests per week. Inside, the spacious living and dining rooms feature original century-old fireplaces that invite guests to relax and unwind after a day on the water.
