Anglers will fish two per guide and the beaver typically takes two trips out each day, with the lodge sometimes contracting additional planes on changeover days or on days when guests are headed to more-distant fisheries. Additionally, the lodge is located on the banks of the Naknek River which is a world-class trophy rainbow fishery. Early and late in the season, many guests will elect not to fly out and fish the home waters in hope of connecting with some of the state’s largest and strongest rainbows.

Where is the lodge? The lodge is located roughly 300 miles southwest of Anchorage in the Bristol Bay region of Alaska. This region is home to the 4.09-million-acre Katmai National Park and Preserve, the 1.2 million acre Becharof Wildlife Refuge, and the 1.6 million acre Wood-Tikchik State Park. Anglers can potentially fly all the way out to King Salmon in one day depending on their airport of origin.

When should I go? In the region of Alaska each week of the season is slightly different. The season opens June 8 and closes around the middle of October. For the largest migratory rainbow trout June/July or September/October are great but August offers the best overall catch rates and more diversity of rainbow trout waters. King salmon fishing is best in June to mid-July and silver salmon fishing is best in August. With a long list of systems and species to target, opportunities are abundant throughout the season.

How will I fish? Guests will access the fishing grounds by float plane, jet boats and, at times, hiking. There’s no shortage of options and the lodge can customize the experience based on guest preference. Guests will fish two anglers per guide unless king salmon fishing on the Nushagak. On the “Nush” guests will fish four anglers per guide using conventional tackle on a large river boat.

Guests will fish with a wide variety of tackle and techniques depending on the time of year and target species. Dry flies and mousing on small streams, two handed rods for huge rainbows and conventional fishing for king salmon could all come into play depending on your dates and preferences.
