Overview

RIO's TECHNICAL TROUT line features a long, fine front taper for the lightest of presentations and delicacy and is the ideal choice of line when fishing dry flies, nymphs, soft hackles and emergers to tricky eaters at distance. The line has a long head and back taper to increase loop control when carrying long lengths, and for making precise casts to rising fish, while the weight distribution makes it easy to turn over long leaders for technical feeders at range. This line is built with SlickCast, RIO's proprietary coating technology, which creates the slickest, most durable fly lines on the market. Lab tests show that lines built with SlickCast have the least amount of friction ever measured in a fly line. In addition, the line features MaxFloat Tip Technology, RIO's proprietary tip coating formula that floats more than twice as high as regular line tips, without any increase in diameter.

This line is available in both Weight Forward and Double Taper options and is built with a supple core and coldwater coating.

Perfect Match

"This line was recommended by one of Rio's Technical Advisors after I bought my Sage 490 LL. I have been using it now for almost five years and I am especially impressed with the versatility it offers. Even with a long front taper, it loads the LL well carrying a variety of flies to allow for more than just dry fly presentations to spooky trout, which is definitely this rod & line combination's specialty. The Technical Trout is a definite improvement over both the Selective Trout and Light Touch, which were previous Rio offerings that I have experience with."

Target casting

"I went to the U.S. Casting championship at Golden Gate Angling and Casting Club San Francisco and they were using S.A. DT5W and of course being that Rio is my line of choice I had to try it. DT6W This line is great for my target practice. Thanks Rio. Robert Jeff Cratty"

Great double taper

"I am really enjoying this line. I have no need for weight forward lines as I’m only fishing for trout and casting only 40-50 ft at max. I only fish double taper lines and this 9 ft taper is great. It rolls over dries, nymphs and streamers nicely. Also it doesn’t take up as much space on the reel as some other double tapers. Excellent for line mending and roll casting. Great to use the other end of the line when the front wears out. The sky blue color is very nice. A Rio video explains that it matches the sky, but they fail to explain the peach color. Why peach? I would buy this line for life if it was all blue. Please make this line in all blue. Thank you for continuing to make excellent double taper lines."
