RIO's Krysciak Jigged Smelt

"The Niagara River is loaded with bait fish, and every species in this river feeds heavily on them. Whereas in many steelhead/salmon/lake run brown trout rivers we're fishing more eggs and worm patterns, these fish get really locked in on the many available disoriented emerald shiners and smelt being washed around in the heavy currents. This fly is meant to be fished under either an indicator or float and either dead drifted (letting the current work it) or twitched like a dying baitfish. These work really well stripped as well, giving you an enticing jigging action instead of your regular straight retrieve presentation. Don't think you can only fish them in this fishery either; many rivers have similar dynamics if baitfish are present, and even in stillwater fisheries, these fished under an indicator so they ride the waves and are jigged along can be absolutely deadly." - Chris Krysciak
