The tactical tungsten crab fly is a pattern designed for Striped Bass in New England. This pattern has proven extremely productive and is responsible for some of the biggest striped bass caught in the state of Maine over the past couple of years. The Tactical Tungsten Crab utilizes tungsten beads to keel the fly as well as provide a rattle effect when stripped across the bottom. This pattern was designed to be fished directly on the bottom using a sink tip fly line however the smaller sizes have been found productive on flats for sight fishing scenarios in skinny water using intermediate and floating fly lines. On top of Striped Bass, smaller sizes of this pattern (2’s and 4’s) have become extremely popular for anglers targeting permit.
