From how to get there and what documents you’ll need to tipping guidelines and destination details, this section covers the practical information to ensure smooth travels.
Getting to the Atoll:
To reach St. Brandon's Atoll, guests need to make flight arrangements to/from Mauritius (MRU). Most flights from the US connect through Dubai or Qatar.
Arrival Day:
Guests need to arrive in Mauritius the day before their scheduled departure to St. Brandon's Atoll and will need to overnight in Port Louis.
Recommended Hotel:
Le Suffren Hotel & Marina
The Boat Transfer:
The day of the transfer, guests are met in front of Le Suffren Hotel and transferred to the port to board the boat. Guests will make a 24-28+ hour transfer from the port to St. Brandon's Atoll by the company's supply vessel. This is not a yacht; this is a slow but safe inner-island supply boat. It is 58 feet long with minimal amenities. To date, it has proven to be the most reliable way to get to St. Brandon's, making the trip more consistent than ever before. It has two small guest cabins with basic air conditioning, and each cabin has two bunks. However, guests typically spend a lot of the daylight hours outside on the roofed back deck, as it is less cramped and there is plenty of fresh air. There are mattresses and bean bags on the back deck for this purpose. There is one bathroom on the back deck. There will be basic meal service, snacks, soft drinks and a case of beer.
Guests should expect a consistent rocking (and at times thumping) side-swell that will get old quickly. It is the price of admission to one of the finest and most pristine saltwater fisheries remaining in the world today.
Departure Day:
Guests need to schedule flights departing Mauritius after 6:00 PM the day they return from St. Brandon's Atoll. Guests will arrive in Port Louis between 7:00 AM – 12:00 PM (weather permitting). Guests often book a day room in Mauritius to relax before evening departures.
When re-entering Port Louis on the last day, guests and their luggage are searched for illegal items or substances. The use or possession of drugs is a serious offence in Mauritius, and any guest found with illegal substances is likely to face imprisonment.
Recommended Hotel (Day Room):
Holiday Inn Mauritius Mon Tresor – Plaine Magnien
Documentation Requirements:
To enter Mauritius and gain access to St. Brandon's Atoll, all guests are required to have the following:
- Passport: Valid for the duration of your trip.
- Safe Mauritius Travel Form: Before travel, guests need to visit the Safe Mauritius site to fill out a traveler form. It will generate a PDF with a QR code. Guests need to print a hard copy of this PDF or save it to a file on their phone for presentation to health officials upon arrival.
Upon Booking:
Guests will need to provide the following to Fly Water Travel:
- Scanned Copy of Passport: The passport will be supplied to the outfitter who will apply for licensing to visit St Brandon's Atoll.
- Copy of previous entry to Mauritius: If any guest has visited Mauritius in the past and has a stamp in their current passport, we will need a photo of the page with the stamp.

Here you’ll find everything you need to be ready on the water: our preferred setups, favorite flies, recommended packing list, and notes on tackle available at the lodge.
St. Brandon's Atoll Tackle Overview
We travel to St. Brandon's Atoll with two set ups and a back up of each. First is a 9 ft. 9-weight for Bones and Permit and the second is a 9 ft. 11 or 12-weight for Bluefin and GT’s. Both set ups are paired with high quality saltwater reels and saltwater floating lines.
St. Brandon's Atoll Provided Tackle:
- Rods/Reels/Lines: The outfitter has full setups for rent. Setups do not include lines. They need to be purchased.
- Flies: Flies are for sale in advance and at the guest house. Guides are very specific about the flies patterns and the hooks they are tied on. For this reason, we strongly recommend purchasing flies from them in advance of the trip. We are able to take orders for rental tackle and flies up to three months before departure. Purchased tackle and rentals will be waiting for guests when they arrive.
