Overview

Situated just outside Puerto Natales on the edge of Chile’s iconic Torres del Paine National Park, Grey Fox Outdoors is an exceptional base for travelers looking to experience the landscapes, wildlife, and fisheries of southern Chilean Patagonia. While the renowned Torres del Paine towers as the region’s centerpiece, the program offers a wide range of spring creek fishing and guided excursions that can be incorporated into anything from a half-week to a two-week long adventure.
Guests can choose from more than 30 different outings to explore the surrounding mountains, glaciers, lakes, rivers, forests, and prairies. Activities include day hikes, biking, horseback riding, cultural experiences, and of course, fly fishing.

Each evening before dinner, guests meet with their English-speaking guides to plan the next day’s adventure. For couples or groups looking to explore this remote and dramatic corner of Patagonia while enjoying a high level of comfort, Grey Fox Outdoors offers the ideal base.

For more serious anglers, access to unique properties outside of Puerto Natales cut down on windshield time and put them right into the heart of productive watersheds.

Fishing Program

With three distinctly different fishing areas with a great diversity of landscapes, dozens of rivers and lakes, and virtually no other anglers Remota offers a totally unique Patagonian fishing experience. The prime target is brown trout (resident and sea run) but multiple salmon species are occasionally found as well.

I. South Zone

Full day / truck / easy difficulty / 8 to 9 hours.

Zone 1 is located approximately 1 ½ ours south of Puerto Natales. This zone has many rivers that rage form low gradient streams that meander through the Patagonian steppe to small mountain creeks, as well as a few spring creeks.

II. Center Zone

Half day or Full / truck / hard medium difficulty / 4 to 8 hours.

Zone 2 is located within a ½ hour drive from the lodge and allows anglers to choose a ½ day or full day excursion. Streams in this area are small, clear, and hold good numbers of brown “Black” trout.

III. North Zone

Full day / truck / Medium difficulty / 8 to 9 hours.

Zone 3 is located approximately 2 hours north of the lodge. The scenery alone is well worth the drive as it is overlooked by the Torres del Paine massif as well as the majestic Sierra Baguales.

Accommodations

Grey Fox Outdoors offers several lodging options that cater to differing trip lengths and guest preferences. Travelers may stay in boutique hotels in Puerto Natales, remote private estancias, or secure their own lodging in town for single-day fishing or adventure outings.

The primary lodging partner is Simple Patagonia Hotel, a boutique property featuring 15 double-occupancy rooms and sweeping views of the Última Esperanza Sound. It is the best option for guests who prefer easy access to Torres del Paine National Park and don’t mind some travel to the fisheries. The hotel features an on-site restaurant serving traditional homemade Chilean cuisine, along with a cozy bar and lounge.

For those looking for a more remote and immersive Patagonian experience, the operation also works with several historic estancias. Dating back to the early 1900s, these classic ranch properties offer comfortable accommodation and closer access to a diverse array of spring creeks, rivers, lakes, and lagoons.

Additional Experiences

Grey Fox Outdoors is about more than the fishing. It’s about experiencing Patagonia in a way that feels personal, immersive, and flexible. From glaciers and fjords to wide-open pampas and ancient forests, this region offers extraordinary natural diversity for mixed interest groups. Wildlife sightings are common, and days are planned around guest interests, weather, and energy level, creating a highly customized adventure rather than a fixed itinerary.
