"The 790 Big Game is an excellent bass rod. I first paired it with the Rio Predator and Outbound Short lines. The rod has plenty of backbone for these aggressive heads and easily launches the largest flies in my box. California bass frequently prefer smaller offerings, though. My favorite bass line is the Rio Smallmouth because it tracks straight, and the warm-water coating really cuts down the tangles. This rod handled it like a champ, guiding small poppers and buggers through bulrush alleys. The biggest surprise was how light in the hand this rod is. It is noticeably lighter than any of my other 7wt rods and balances my reels perfectly. Bass rods live a tough life. They bounce against boats, drag fish from dock cables, and poke loose more snagged flies than we care to admit. This versatile and durable rod is ready for the big game."

Oustanding Boat Rod!

"I purchased this rod for a backup boat rod for throwing large streamers on our larger western rivers and reservoirs. Since these rods have the grain weight recommendations located on the handle section (200 to 240 Grain ), I matched the rod with a RIO Predator 238 grain graduated sink tip (F/I/5), a RIO Big Nasty 6' Leader and a 4" wet zonker strip. and off to the casting green. I was pleasantly surprised at how this rod behaves as it handled the sink tip with ease. The rod is noticeably light in the hand and would throw a short accurate cast as well as the long cast with equal accuracy. Great looks and a pleasure to cast. In the boat, this rod performed very well and fought fish with ease. I cast it all day with little or no fatigue. This rod was made for big predatory Trout, Largemouth and Smallmouth Bass, and Carp. I wouldn't be afraid to fish it on some inshore saltwater species as well."

So Good I Bought Two

"I was looking to add a couple of new rods to my client quiver for targeting Upper Mississippi River smallmouth bass, and the 890 Big Game has been an outstanding addition. The rod is extremely lightweight and fast, but not a broomstick—which makes it especially forgiving and effective for less experienced clients. The first day I fished it, I was targeting pre-spawn smallmouth and immediately noticed how well it cast with a Rio Predator Intermediate line. It produced tight loops, excellent line speed, and impressive accuracy at distance. We were throwing fairly large flies—weighted patterns, leggy boi’s, and Game Changers—and the rod handled them with ease. At the same time, it performed just as well with smaller flies like leech patterns and woolly buggers, showing a great deal of versatility. After just one day on the water with this rod, I bought a second one. I’ve been fishing both Sage and Redington rods out of my boat for over a decade, and this is, without a doubt, the best Redington rod I’ve ever fished."
