Good first setup

"Had several experienced fly anglers cast this and tell me it was a great first set up. I have fished it very hard and cut my teeth with it. I recently snapped it while navigating a mangrove tunnel and the rod got stuck. Warranty is excellent. $60 and done, good as new. The one thing I hate about this rod is the cork. It started deteriorating in my hands from the moment I started using it. It eventually got deep ruts where the cork would dig into my hands and gave me blisters. I would be quite literally fishing through my hand’s bleeding. I’ve since picked up a nicer rod and do not have this issue. I was also told by a local fly shop that this line is intentionally overweighted (more like 10wt line) on this setup in order to assist the learning curve of a new fly angler. Maybe that actually helped me learn more quickly? All I know is that I caught plenty of fish with it and I was pretty happy with my casting while using it. I like the behemoth reel and it will absolutely stay in rotation, should I need to have a second reel available while on a trip. (i.e. to have a sinking setup ready). The behemoth is also very easy to purchase spare spools only, so if you choose to upgrade from this package to a nicer rod, you can keep the reel and buy a spare spool to have options line-wise. All-in-all, I would recommend this kit. You can buy grip covers if you have the same cork issue I had. If you absolutely know you will be upgrading shortly after purchase, then I would recommend one of their cheaper kits. I also have the vice kit, which has been fantastic!"

"The kit looks like it will fish, but I haven’t gotten to test it yet. Good value. My only concern is the alignment dots aren’t well aligned with the guides, and the tip section seems to have a slight bend to starboard, probably from being in the package for a while. Hopefully it will straighten out with use."

"No matter what age angler, this setup will do the job. Great way to get a minimum outfit. Not everyone can afford an R8 to start. Start here and move up to the really high end gear, when you can afford it……"
