Beh Kay Lodge Inaugural Season Update

Landon Mace October 20, 2026

Beh Kay Lodge has quickly established itself as one of the premier permit lodges in Espíritu Santo Bay. While Ascension Bay has long been a go-to destination for anglers looking to pursue permit in a variety of shallow-water environments.

“Beh Kay was more than a fishing lodge, it was an experience all its own in one of the most naturally beautiful places around.” – Frank S.

Opening a new lodge in a remote location is no small undertaking, but Beh Kay’s inaugural season got off to a strong start. The lodge delivered a level of hospitality, cuisine, and guest service that felt remarkably well established for a brand-new operation. The team’s attention to detail was evident from the accommodations and dining experience to the daily fishing program. On the water, one of the most promising aspects was the collaborative approach to guiding. By rotating guides and encouraging them to share information about productive areas and changing conditions, Beh Kay is building a program centered on the guest experience rather than individual guide preferences. As with any new operation, there will always be opportunities to refine the details, but the first season laid a solid foundation for what this destination can become. The fishery certainly showed its potential, including opportunities to target permit in some unusually visual scenarios, like topwater crab eats. The next step is to pair these early impressions with guest feedback and guide observations to identify where the operation is already excelling and where further improvements will make the experience even better.

Beh Kay Lodge has quickly established itself as one of the premier permit lodges in Espíritu Santo Bay. While Ascension Bay has long been a go-to destination for anglers looking to pursue permit in a variety of shallow-water environments, Beh Kay offers a more focused permit experience in one of Mexico’s most celebrated permit fisheries. The bay provides an incredible range of opportunities, from tailing fish on shallow turtle grass flats to cruising singles over white sand, schools moving across the flats, and the possibility of presenting a floating crab to a feeding permit. The opportunity to encounter permit in so many different situations is what makes this fishery particularly compelling. Pair that with an intimate beachfront lodge, thoughtful cuisine, and the operational experience of Nervous Waters, and Beh Kay delivers a combination that is tough to beat.

With its inaugural season behind it, Beh Kay has an opportunity to build on a promising start and continue establishing itself as one of the Caribbean’s premier permit destinations. This season also saw appreciable opportunities for tarpon and bonefish when the permit got finicky. The foundation is in place with an exceptional fishery, a collaborative guiding program, distinctive accommodations, and the hospitality and operational experience of Nervous Waters. Beh Kay’s focus moving forward is to refining the details that make a good fishing trip exceptional, incorporating guest feedback, continuing to develop the guide team, and ensuring that the fishing logistics consistently match the quality of the overall lodge experience. The boat program has been another important area of evaluation and the lodge is currently working on obtaining new skiffs for the upcoming season. For anglers considering a visit, Beh Kay offers a compelling opportunity to experience a world-class permit fishery while the lodge continues to establish its reputation. The next season is an ideal time to get acquainted with this destination, particularly for anglers who have been waiting for the right opportunity to fish Espíritu Santo Bay.

The Sage Experiences tackle program adds another layer of value to the Beh Kay experience, particularly for anglers who would rather travel without bringing an entire arsenal of rods, reels, and lines. With Sage rods/reels and RIO lines available at the lodge, guests can arrive ready to fish without the hassle of transporting a full quiver of specialized saltwater gear. The program also gives anglers an opportunity to fish high-performance equipment suited to the demands of Espíritu Santo Bay, whether they are targeting permit on the flats or switching gears for tarpon, bonefish, and snook. For a destination built around technical sight fishing, having the right equipment ready to go is an important part of the overall experience. The lodge and Fly Water Travel has been gathering direct feedback from guests and guides to better understand how often the equipment was used, which setups proved most popular, and whether guests found the program especially helpful when traveling with limited luggage.
