Help Spay and Neuter the Potcakes of South Andros

This project will reduce the number of stray and suffering dogs and cats on Andros through holding a large spay and neuter clinic with 2 vets and vet techs assisting. In addition; vaccinations, worming and emergency vet care to injured animals, orphaned puppies and kittens will be available.

Challenge

South Andros has a large population of roaming dogs and cats seeking food, water and shelter. Some are hit by cars, are poisoned and puppies dumped on the streets. South Andros does not have a vet on the island. Bringing Baark to the Andros to hold a large spay and neuter clinic will help reduce the number of stray and suffering dogs and cats and provide education to the community on responsible pet ownership; helping to make a healthier and safer community for people and pets alike.

Solution

Trap-neuter-return (TNR) is promoted by the ASPCA and HSUS as the most humane and effective alternative to euthanasia for managing and over animal populations. Working together with local communities it is the only long-term solution, most humane and comprehensive approach that includes education and the promotion responsible pet ownership. These sterilizations will save thousands of helpless puppies and kittens being born into a life of suffering, disease and painful deaths.

Long-Term Impact

Spay, Neuter & Education is the ONLY WAY to make an impactful and lasting change. One unaltered female dog and her subsequent offspring can produce 67,000 puppies in only six years.*(peta) An unspayed female cat and their offspring, producing two litters per year, can produce well over 100,000 kittens in five years. Less stray animals also provide safer and healthier communities. Education will bring more compassionate behavior.
