Linking Patagonia: New Charter Flights from Jurassic Lake Lodge

Liam Donohoe July 02, 2026

Jurassic Lake is one of the great pilgrimages in fly fishing. Home to some of the largest rainbow trout on the planet, it sits near the edge of the world in the windswept steppe of southern Argentina.

Like many great fishing destinations, getting there has traditionally required a commitment of both time and logistics.

Over the years, those logistics have steadily improved. Road upgrades shortened transfer times, a private runway was constructed, and seasonal flight operations began connecting anglers directly to the lodge from El Calafate. Now, for a limited time, Jurassic Lake Lodge is taking the next step by connecting one of Patagonia's most iconic fisheries with the rest of the region.

Beginning in January 2027, groups of four to six anglers will have the opportunity to combine Jurassic Lake with another Patagonia destination through a series of seasonal charter flights operating directly into the lodge. Rather than returning to Buenos Aires, navigating additional domestic flights, and spending extra nights in transit, guests can fly directly between destinations and maximize their time on the water.

The first scheduled route will connect Esquel and Lago Strobel, linking Jurassic Lake with one of Patagonia's premier trout fishing regions. Home to a collection of renowned rivers, spring creeks, and lodge programs, the Esquel area has long been considered one of Argentina's most diverse trout fishing destinations. The new charter effectively bridges central and southern Patagonia, creating the opportunity for a seamless multi-destination fishing itinerary.

Best of all, the one-way charter flight is included in the package cost when the aircraft is fully occupied, making this an unexpectedly affordable way to combine two world-class fisheries in a single trip.

Jurassic Lake Lodge, Argentina

If we were put on the spot and asked specifically where the most prolific 100 yards of trophy trout water in the world was, our response would be instant, and our tone would be confident. “It is where Argentina’s Rio Barrancoso flows into Lago Strobel.” We have been there and fished it and must say that in all our years of fly fishing, we have never seen, heard of, or experienced anything remotely like it. Some label it surreal or incomprehensible, but for simplicity and accuracy let us call it the one and only Jurassic Lake Lodge.
