Xingu Lodge, Brazil 2022 Season Report

Untamed Angling December 09, 2022

At the end of our second full season in Xingu, we have a lot to be thankful for.

It was an amazing season, and our understanding of fly fishing for payara was boosted with new techniques and successes. We were able to explore new water for payara, but also for peacock bass, bicudas, wolfish and more.

The final numbers this season ended with an average of 35 fish per angler/week, which is an amazing statistic overall. The number and size of the payara was also remarkable, our largest payara of the season was a monster: 98 cm. and 22 lbs. landed by Argentinean fly angler Hugo Rodriguez.

Our best week of the season for payara came on the very last week, boasting an average of four payaras per day, per angler. For the third season in a row, we have seen higher water levels and cooler temperatures starting in November. These conditions allow the payara to feed aggressively on baitfish in shallow water and in the pools. There is great incentive for our anglers to explore this part of the season, as the rewards are generally amazing!

A special thanks is due to the Xingu River Kayapo communities, to our professional guides (Marcos Hlace, Andre Vergara, Martin Ferreyra, Augusto Tosso and Martin Andersen), and all the staff who worked hard to make this an amazing season!

In addition to our hard working team, we would like to give special thanks to all of our customers who believed in our work from the start.

Our staff at Xingu worked wonders yet again for another season in the jungle. Believe it or not, we are already looking forward to next season at Xingu, the best place on Earth to catch vampire fish and lots of other species!
