Only 2.5 percent of the world’s water is freshwater, and of that 2.5 percent less than half can be found in an easily fishable—that is, unfrozen—form. Fortunately, that one percent or so is all we need for the world’s trout, salmon, bass, pike, and steelhead—and too many more to list here—to thrive and provide an excuse for us to sneak away to the nearest river or lake and fling flies through the air.
