The fishing program at Dorados on the Fly is built around maximizing productive conditions while maintaining a relaxed, enjoyable rhythm to the day. Anglers fish from 23-foot pangas designed for two casters to work comfortably at the same time, with guides using electric trolling motors to position the boat along banks, eddies, and structure. When conditions are right, the guide will pole the skiff along flats allowing one angler shots at cruising fish in shallow water. The focus is on the clear side channels of the Yahape and Repeski zones in areas renowned for large fish, but also for a diversity of species, healthy numbers, and consistently favorable water. Most of the fishing is done from boats, though when the dam releases a lot of water, it is sometimes possible to wade the small side channels, much like you would a trout stream.
Guests target dorado, pacu, and pira pita using a mix of streamers, and dries. Sight-fishing opportunities are frequent in the Parana’s gin-clear water, while searching drop-offs, seams, and woody structure with streamers offers a more traditional, exploratory approach. Accuracy is rewarded, as many of the most productive lies sit tight to rocks, cutbanks, overhangs, and submerged timber.
Fishing days are divided into a morning session and an evening session. After an early start, anglers fish until midday before returning to the lodge for lunch and a siesta, then head back out around 4:00 p.m. to fish until sunset aligning perfectly with the river’s natural feeding windows and avoiding the heat of the day.
