Specs

Spey R8 6130-4

SKU: 2058-6130-4

Basics
  • The fly line weight designation (e.g., 5wt). Match the line size to the rod's recommended line weight for the best casting. 6wt
  • The length of the fully assembled rod. Longer rods add reach and line control; shorter rods are easier to handle in tight spaces. 13'0"
  • How much and where the rod flexes when casting. Fast actions bend mostly near the tip for power and distance; slower actions bend deeper for feel.
    Action: Fast Action
  • The blank design and material technology used to build the rod, which affects its strength, weight and casting feel. R8 Technology
  • The main type of fishing the product is designed for, such as dry fly, nymph, streamer, saltwater or all-around use. Spey, Scandi, Multi-Application, Skagit, and Sinking Lines
  • The fish species the product is best suited for, such as trout, bass, steelhead or saltwater species. Salmon, Steelhead, Trout, and Sea-Run Trout
  • The type of water the product is designed for, such as streams, rivers, lakes, stillwater or saltwater. River, Beach, and Surf
  • The recommended fly line weight for the rod, measured in grains. Helps match specialty lines, such as shooting heads, for the best casting. Skagit 400-450grScandi 350-400gr
Blank
  • The material used to build the rod blank, such as graphite. It shapes how light and responsive the rod feels. Aerospace Composite
  • The number of sections the rod breaks down into. More pieces pack smaller for travel and storage. 4
  • Color Ale
Components
  • The rod's grip, typically cork. Its shape and size affect comfort and casting control. 13" Fore Grip, 5" Rear Grip
  • The hardware at the base of the rod handle where the reel attaches and locks in place. Anodized Aluminum Down-Locking Reel Seat
  • The color of the thread wraps that hold the guides in place, plus any accent trim on the rod. Grey Primary Thread Wraps with Gold and Black Trim Wraps
  • The guides along the rod that hold the fly line close to the blank and help it travel smoothly during the cast. Fuji K-Series Tangle Free Stripping Guides
  • The cloth sleeve that holds the rod sections and keeps them from rubbing together inside the tube. Black Rod Bag with Gold Sage Logo & Ale Model Tag
  • The hard protective tube that stores the rod, in its bag, for travel and storage. Low Light Bronze Aluminum Tube with Granite Tube Cap & Gold Matte Black Sage Medallion

Technology

Spey R8 Rod - Sage

R8 technology across the SPEY R8 family is optimized for casting efficiency and sustained load management, resulting in two-handed rods that feels intuitive, efficient and smooth – with precise control over line movement and load.

  • D-Loop Dominance

Enhanced R8 hoop strength preserves shape during sustained load, which is critical for maintaining consistent D-loop formation and anchor stability.

  • Efficient Energy Flow

R8 Power Fiber optimized energy transfer through longer two-handed blanks, improving how energy flows from butt to tip during Spey casts.

  • Lightweight Stamina

Reduced weight lowers swing weight and fatigue, increasing comfort and timing precision over long sessions.

Why Spey R8

Multi-Discipline

An effective Spey cast depends on efficient transfers of energy in each of its three key components: Lift, Load, and Delivery. Utilizing R8 graphite technology along the full length of double-handed rod tapers results in a blank with an unmatched ability to capture and carry power.

  • Lift

Adequate stiffness and power are required to lift heavy sink tips, longheads, and bulky flies off the water, but responsiveness is also key to ensure that no efforts are wasted; when the angler begins moving the rod, the line and fly follow.

  • Load

A Spey rod needs to load sufficiently to be able to turn over the sink-tip or leader, tippet, and fly. R8 technology maximizes the amount of energy collected in sweep or touch-and-go moves, carries that energy into the D-Loop, and transfers it smoothly into the rod.

  • Deliver

SPEY R8 rods apply the responsiveness and tracking abilities of R8 technology to diminish lost energy and reduce lateral movements upon the forward stroke, delivering casting power and accuracy.
