Join lead instructor Brad Schuelke for a highly educational, in-depth Trout School at Sage Lodge in the Paradise Valley of Montana.

Fish in some of the West's most scenic country for brown, rainbow and cutthroat trout.

Whether you are a seasoned fly angler or new to the sport, this trip to Montana with Brad Schuelke is sure to be an exciting and educational adventure. Brad will be traveling with the latest Sage fly rods and RIO fly lines perfectly matched for the Paradise Valley. Students will learn in the classroom on select mornings and evenings and spend the first day learning to cast with Brad and other casting instructors. The second day of the course is designed to teach anglers how to fish with dry flies, nymphs and indicators, streamers and soft hackles, all while wade fishing on the Yellowstone River. The remaining two days concentrate on putting into practice the skills learned with two days of guided fishing with top Montana guides.

Far Bank Fly Fishing Schools are designed so that students leave the course with all the knowledge and skills needed for a lifetime of enjoyment in fly fishing. We do this by keeping the instructor to student ratio to an absolute minimum. On group lesson days there will be a maximum of 4 students per instructor, and on the putting-into-practice fishing days, only two guests per professional guide.

Itinerary: 

  • September 16: Arrive Sage Lodge, Montana
  • September 17: Classroom and casting sessions with Brad and other certified instructors 
  • September 18: Morning classroom session, half-day of wade fishing with certified instructors
  • September 19: Full day of guided fishing
  • September 20: Full day of guided fishing
  • September 21: Depart lodge

Meet Brad Schuelke

Paradise Valley, MT

Brad is Director of Activities at Sage Lodge and has been teaching fly fishing for over 25 years.  Originally from Oregon, Brad grew up chasing trout and steelhead on the fly throughout the Pacific Northwest, eventually guiding in Northern California and Southern Oregon.  The first fishing trip to Montana sealed the deal, however, and he has spent the last two decades chasing trout throughout the Rocky mountains.  Brad has fished for many species around the world, but still prefers feeding dry flies to rising trout on his home waters in Southwest Montana.
