SPEY R8

Overview

By utilizing our proprietary Revolution 8 graphite, SPEY R8 rods heighten the smooth transfer of energy throughout the three key components of the Spey cast, allowing anglers to effectively Lift line off the water, Load the rod sufficiently, and Deliver the fly to the target. Casts become instinctive and consistent. Simultaneously, we fine-tuned rod models and actions to match the vast array of Spey situations found around the globe. The result is a Spey Casting Synergy that's enjoyable and approaching effortless. Be it steelhead, Atlantic salmon, king salmon, or sea-run brown trout; Skagit, Scandi or Traditional lines; SPEY R8 rods capitalize on each cast, increasing the likelihood of the almighty moment that we all are devoted to.

MOST POWERFUL ACTION

Targeting the biggest and brightest Atlantic salmon, winter steelhead, or Chinook on vast and deep rivers is the most demanding form of anadromous angling and our Most Powerful SPEY R8 models are required. With additional blank strength and rod lengths up to 15', these rods offer maximum amounts of power and control. For the angler, this translates into increased abilities to move and lift long and heavy lines from the water, then carry them through the entire Spey cast, all in the face of extreme conditions. In technical situations where line and loop control, casting range, and fish-fighting strength are paramount and none can be compromised, choose the Most Powerful models of the SPEY R8 family.

SHAPING 8 REVOLUTIONS IN HOW WE FISH

R8 TECHNOLOGY

The advanced, leading-edge material behind R8 enables us to shape a rod with a stiffer, stronger backbone but a more sensitive tip and more connected feel. The secret is twofold. First, a proprietary aerospace composite with a greater hoop strength enables us to dimensionally grow taper diameter more quickly from the tip—while a nano-sintered resin application increases axial resilience and allows us to pack more fiber into the blank, resulting in that true two-way connection from hand to fly and back for greater feel, flow and control.

MADE IN THE USA

We’re not a big faceless factory, but rather a workplace of craftspeople who design and build the world’s best fly rods and reels using our hands and hearts. We do it by sharing ideas and always asking the next question to find what can be done to make this better. Our rods are built one at time right here on Bainbridge Island, WA, following hundreds of meticulous steps and passing through 23 sets of hands. We’re out there fishing the same places in the same unforgiving conditions that you are. Craftsmanship is applied experience. Lifetimes of it.

"Great rod"

Rod B. (5/5)

Great rod and line combo

"A very nice rod, quality high as usual from Sage. Rod cast very well using a RIO long belly 8/9 line, a good match for this rod."

Richard O. (5/5)

Spey R8. Great looking rod.

"Spey R8. Great looking rod. Intend to use this on Chinook salmon this coming season in Alaska."

David K. (5/5)

Great rod for Medium Heavy

"Great rod for Medium Heavy to Light streamers. Found the Skagit 375 Max power with MOW Tips cast great."

Brian B. (5/5)

Best new Summer Steelhead rod

"I just fished this rod for 4 days on the Grand Ronde. I had messed around with it a bit beforehand, but not much time on the water. I was blown away with how smooth, deep flexing and quick recovery this rod offered. I have many Burkies, meisers, ACRs and this rod has become my top pick in the 6 wt category. I recommend a Bridge Tributary 6/7 for dry line fishing. For lighter tip work, a Rio scandi body (7/8, 375 gr) with 12 ft MDT tip was perfect. These are a whole new level of rods from Sage!"

Pshan (5/5)

Art in form; Form in function

"Beautiful components and design combined in order to craft a utilitarian tool for the layman on the waterway."

Shawn W. (5/5)

Great skagit rod

"I use this rod with the RIO 525 grain and airflo Flotips and it’s wonderful. Very light and powerful. Perfect steelhead rod for how I fish."

TB (5/5)

lightweight Spey

"I got this rod to put less pressure on my shoulder. I was a little concerned it would be heavy enough for Atlantic salmon, but it definitely is. I used it on a recent trip to the Whale River and caught a number of salmon to 15 pounds with no trouble at all. The rod was a pleasure to cast either with Spey casts or overhand."

Brad B. (5/5)

Absolutely love this rod 👌🏽

"Absolutely love this rod 👌🏽"

Matt M. (5/5)

Stogie

"8 wt. Spey is too big for smaller rivers in Scotland, but still works there and perfect for larger rivers, 13’ 6” is the right length for salmon. Lots of muscle, easy to cast once you get the proper hang of it, which takes a few days even for a proficient single~handed caster no matter what gullies say."
