There’s always that first trout trip of the year, and whether it happens on January 1st or June 1st makes no difference. Trout season is more a state of mind than a collection of days on the calendar. Take that state of mind down to the river with a handful of flies and a bit of creativity, and you just might be surprised how generous trout season can actually be.
Stripers are a fish that will do almost anything a fish can do. They cruise on shallow water flats like bonefish, lay in the soupy surf, plot in the boulder fields offshore, feed subtly in marshes and estuaries. They are the friend that shows up when you’ve needed them most.
Alaska demands the best of both angler and gear. Though we might do our best to control some of the variables, it’s not a matter of taming the Last Frontier—that ship sailed long ago. The best we can hope for is coming to an understanding: with the bears, with the weather, with the wilderness, and, of course, with the fish.
Deerhair splashing through lily pads. Crayfish bumping and rattling along stony drop-offs. Streamers the size of your forearm slinking through shallow weed beds. Though warmwater fly fishing may at times require finesse, it’s about as far from subtle as one can get with a fly rod, and that’s exactly the point.
MULTI-APPLICATION / FAST ACTION
R8 Core is a rod family focused on maximum versatility and applies new revolutionary material technology through our forward thinking lens of what we’re seeing out on the water where one rod needs to show even greater range. At its Core, R8 Core traces a direct lineage to Sage’s multi application vision, one shaped by the fishing evolutions happening all around us—from habitats we stalk and waters we frequent, to the flies we fish and the diversity of species we now target.
Saltwater reels built to cover the entire spectrum of fly fishing applications from Bonefish to Marlin and anything in-between. Just select desired line weight and feature set for your application._
At Sage, craftsmanship is our people. We’re not a big faceless factory, but rather a workplace of craftspeople who design and build the world’s best fly rods and reels using our hands and hearts. We do it by sharing ideas and always asking the next question to find what can be done to make this better. Our rods are built one at time right here on Bainbridge Island, WA, following hundreds of meticulous steps and passing through 23 sets of hands. Our reels are also designed right here, and then precision-crafted with exclusive USA carbon to tolerance only Sage can deliver. We’re out there fishing the same places in the same unforgiving conditions that you are. Craftsmanship is applied experience. Lifetimes of it.
